Son of the Soil Learner's Visit to Stellenbosch University

On the 26th of March 2022, LLL hosted a campus for the Son of the Soil learners. The day started off with a brief welcoming at Huis Russel Botman, followed by a motivation talk from one of the Son of the Soil alumni who reminded the learners that everything is within their reach. “Hard work and focus are the key to unlocking that full potential”, he said. With a film crew that was filming for the soon to be released documentary on Son of the Soil occasionally filming and conducting interviews, the day was surely busy for everyone involved.

“Beyond my schoolwork, I now have even more reason to read a lot – there are just a lot of books that one must read!”- said one learner after having toured the Stellenbosch University Library and was left greatly astonished by how much knowledge there is. The library tour was preceded by a tour of all academic buildings on the main campus, and ended with a visit and picture pose at the general administration building commonly known as “Admin A” building. Now having had brunch, and with goodie bags in their hands, the learners headed for Strand Beach to finish the day with even more fun. Fun it was, indeed, for everyone from busking in the sun (sunbathing) discussing dream careers after reading through the Careers SA latest publication, to playing the ‘goofie golf’ as friends in groups of six.
