Workshop on Smart Finances through understanding taxes, financial planning and job readiness

On Saturday, 2 August 2025, Listen, Live, and Learn held its third workshop of the year. The theme for this year is W.I.S.E, with each workshop focusing on one letter. Our first workshop, “W”, focused on “Wellness, Sustainability and Social Impact” and our second workshop, “I”, focused on “Investing in Connections through building meaningful networks”. This workshop brought us a step closer to becoming wiser as we tackled the “S” which focused on “Smart Finances through understanding taxes, financial planning and job readiness”.

With the year-end looming, most of our community is gearing towards being young professionals, entering the world of work and striving towards financial independence. For many of us this is unfamiliar territory, and the workshop provided an opportunity to have our financial and work readiness questions answered as we approach this transition.

The workshop was designed around a panel of professionals who have successfully transitioned into the financial industry and interactive team building activities. Our panellists included, Jada Freeman a Paraplanner at Investec, Nishaan Vasi an Actuarial Analytics Consultant at Sanlam and Kaylin Mackay a Financial Advisor at Investec.

This was a valuable opportunity where we learnt from professionals on the importance of good budgeting, different types of investment vehicles, taxation policies, building a solid financial plan, and how to prepare for the world of work. This was a dynamic and informative workshop focused on equipping the LLL Community with essential tools for financial independence and career success. I look forward to our final workshop of the year – “E” stands for “Entrepreneurship”.
